The Houston Astros head to sunny Los Angeles to battle the Angels. It's time to continue our MLB odds series with an Astros-Angels prediction and pick.

Last Start: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 7 K
2024 Road Splits: 18.2 IP, 0-3, 9.00 ERA

Entering play, the Astros were able to nab two of three games against the St. Louis Cardinals in inter-league play thus resulting in a series win. Nonetheless, the Astros have fallen on hard times as their 28-35 overall record has fallen extremely short of expectations. Over the course of the last six seasons, it has been the ‘Stros who have managed to collect at least 90 wins in that span. Regardless of the team's struggles, the talent on this roster is still more than evident.
Meanwhile, the Angels find themselves in the midst of a free fall as they sit a whopping 15 games under .500 at 24-39 overall. Still, the ‘Halos have shown plenty of life with three wins in their past four games. Unfortunately, LA will most likely want to right their wrongs following being shellacked versus the Astros by a score of 7-1.

Why The Astros Will Cover The Spread/Win
To begin, a repeat of Friday night's performance would certainly do the trick en route to covering the spread. Above all else, receiving a stellar starting appearance from Hunter Brown could be the right kind of formula. With that being said, it is Brown that has been roughed up to say the least this season. Altogether, Brown's swelling ERA isn't easy on the eyes and has been off to an underwhelming beginning to 2024 for someone of his raw skill.
Then again, the 25-year-old from Detroit has had his swing and miss-pitched working to perfection in his last pair of outings and he also has recorded three consecutive quality starts. After keeping the Angels' bats in check by surrendering just the lone run on Friday evening, getting help in the form of the hard-throwing arms of the pitching staff could be exactly what the doctor ordered.
If that fails, then the offense will have to show up for play. After being able to breathe a sigh of relief following the news of outfielder Kyle Tucker avoiding a long stay on the injured list with a shin contusion instead, other names will still need to step up to the plate. Look no further than catcher Yainer Diaz to continue down the path of his sizzling hot hitting. In fact, Diaz has now hit a homer in four straight games and currently possesses one of the hottest bats in all of the Majors.
Why The Angels Will Cover The Spread/Win
Simply put, there have been sunnier days in Anaheim. Whether it's been bad stretches of poor play, misfortunate injuries, and even some bad luck, this Los Angeles team and its patience is certainly running thin.
At first glance, if the Angels are going to win this game and get back into contention of things in regards to the AL West division race, then winning more consistently at home will be vital. So far, the Angels are only 10-22 on their home turf which isn't going to cut it. With the regular season quickly marching on into its summer months, Los Angeles MUST treat their home fans with some wins. As a matter of fact, LA did just come off a three-game home sweep of the San Diego Padres, so don't be overly shocked if the ‘Halos bounce back from their nightmarish opening game versus Houston.
Most importantly, the pitchers that exist in this clubhouse have been miserable when called upon to step foot onto the rubber. As it stands, only three other teams in baseball have a higher team ERA than the Angels. Even worse, LA often gets itself in trouble with far too much traffic on the base paths. If the ‘Halos can receive a solid outing from Tyler Anderson and the bullpen in the later stages, then they will have a chance to get the job done.
Final Astros-Angels Prediction & Pick
There is a slight chance that the Angels find a way to take care of business, but siding with the Astros here is a much safer pick.
