The Texas Tech Red Raiders are set to face the Texas Longhorns. Check out our college basketball odds series, which includes our Texas Tech Texas prediction, odds, and pick.

Texas Tech is in the hunt for a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Mark Adams is in the running for national coach of the year, along with Arizona's Tommy Lloyd, Auburn's Bruce Pearl, and Providence's Ed Cooley. College basketball odds analysts would tell you that Tech's home-court advantage is elite in 2022, but now the Red Raiders have to go on the road and see if they can sweep Texas, having beaten the Longhorns recently in Lubbock.

Tech just swept Baylor, but when thinking about a Texas Tech Texas prediction, do note that Baylor was playing without forward Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua, who is out for the season with an injury. Texas isn't carrying any especially significant injuries, though forward Tre Mitchell has taken a personal leave of absence from the team. Measuring the value of  Tech's win over a shorthanded Baylor team is difficult, in relationship to this game against the Longhorns in Austin.

Tech's floor is very high because its defense is outstanding. Adams was the defensive mastermind under former coach Chris Beard, helping the Red Raiders advance to the 2019 national championship game against Virginia. Now as head coach, Adams has enabled Tech to retain its defensive edge. The ceiling for this team depends on the offense. Realistically, the Red Raiders are unlikely to shoot at a very high percentage; crashing the offensive glass and minimizing turnovers give Tech its best path to success.

Texas is coming off an overtime road win at Oklahoma. The Longhorns defeated Kansas earlier in February but lost to Baylor. The Longhorns have been better in recent weeks than they were in the first half of January, when they comparatively struggled in the rugged Big 12 Conference. Texas's offense is not the picture of consistency, but it has stabilized to a degree in February and has given Chris Beard confidence that his team can improve its NCAA Tournament seeding. Beating Tech would help the Horns rise up the seed list before the Big 12 Tournament.

Why Texas Tech Could Cover the Spread

The Red Raiders have total self-belief and supreme confidence. Playing at home, they're unbeatable, but on the road, they're still formidable. They were a lot better than UT a few weeks ago. They can certainly be better again … and they're getting a few points, too.

Why Texas Could Cover the Spread

The atmosphere in Lubbock for Chris Beard's return was one of the most frenzied atmospheres in college basketball this season. Simply escaping that environment is probably worth eight or nine points alone for the Longhorns. Being able to play the Red Raiders outside of Lubbock is huge. One generally thinks of Phog Allen Fieldhouse as the Big 12's best home-court advantage, but Tech in Lubbock currently exists on that same plane. Taking that out of the picture gives Texas more of an advantage than many people might be prepared to admit or allow.

Final Texas Tech-Texas Prediction & Pick

Texas might win outright, but it seems hard to think this game won't be a one-score game in the final minute. The Horns could win by three, and that would still mean Tech covers. That sounds about right.
