Purdue will take on No. 2 Iowa in what will be an interesting Big 10 matchup in college football this Saturday. It's time to continue our College Football odds series and make a Purdue-Iowa prediction and pick.
Iowa (6-0) comes into play as the No. 2 ranked team in the nation, with an impressive win over Penn State last Saturday. Iowa edged out a gritty 23-20 come-from-behind win at home over Penn State, and will look to continue their winning streak against a Purdue team that has lost two of its last three games. Purdue lost at home to Minnesota last week. Purdue has been solid this season, holding a record of 3-2. Their other loss was at Notre Dame, and they were competitive for much of the contest before the Irish pulled away late.

Why Purdue Could Cover The Spread
Purdue has an impressive passing attack, averaging 325 yards per game so far in 2021. While Iowa is very good defensively, the Boilermakers might be able to create enough offense to cover the spread. Iowa hasn't been exactly potent offensively, averaging just 317 total yards per game offensively. If Purdue can get the passing game in rhythm, they could have a shot to hang in this game. Iowa is a strong opponent, but the Purdue might be able to catch them sleeping off a big win over Penn State. Purdue's defense has been pretty solid in Big 10 play, allowing just 29 total points across two contests. If Purdue can bring their A-game on both sides, Iowa might be on upset alert come Saturday afternoon.
Why Iowa Could Cover The Spread
Iowa has one of the best defenses in the country, and they rely on that defense to create turnovers and advantageous field positioned for their offense. Offensively, Iowa has been average at best in 2021, but they made enough plays to win in their two biggest matchups so far this season vs. Iowa State and Penn State. Their defense will need to slow down the Purdue passing attack in order to cover a large 11.5 spread on Saturday. Iowa's offense will continue to look to click at a higher level as they average under 200 yards per game passing, and just 123 per game rushing.

Purdue has been the more explosive offense between these two teams this season. While Iowa has a great defense, Purdue's passing attack might be able to keep them in it early. If they fall behind, they could still get home with a backdoor cover late at a high number like 11.5.
