Corentin Moutet takes on Jannik Sinner at the French Open. Our French Open odds series has our Moutet Sinner prediction and pick. Find out how to watch Moutet Sinner.
The 2024 French Open heads into the second week and the Round of 16. We're down to a select group of men's tennis players. Not all 16 are legitimate Roland Garros championship contenders, but many of them are, and what's different compared to most of the past 20 years is that it's not just Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and then one or two others. This tournament is more wide-open than in the past.
Sinner probably did not stay up late at night to watch his fellow Italian, Lorenzo Musetti, take Djokovic five sets in the third round before ultimately losing. The match did not end until after 3 a.m. in Paris, and Djokovic is clearly not playing at the height of his abilities. This is not the “Prime Djokovic” we have seen so often in the past, even as recently as last year, when Djokovic won three major titles and reached the Wimbledon final before losing to Carlos Alcaraz. Because Djokovic is not the dominant figure he once was, the tournament really is up for grabs. Jannik Sinner is one of several players who have a realistic shot at this title. Sinner, however, faces a unique challenge in the fourth round of Roland Garros. He will be playing a Frenchman in France. The crowd will be cheering for Sinner's opponent. It's a real test of his composure and focus as a young athlete.

Why Corentin Moutet Could Cover The Spread
The spread of 8.5 games for this match is the same spread presented in the betting odds for Sinner's third-round match against Pavel Kotov. Sinner won the match in straight sets, but each set was 6-4, meaning that the overall total of games won was 18-12 for Sinner, or a six-game spread. Kotov easily covered. Will Moutet win four games in all three sets as Kotov did? That might not happen. However, in order to cover an 8.5-game spread, Moutet doesn't have to be spectacular. He just needs to be moderately good. A 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 Sinner win — which is a very routine scoreline and a generally comfortable win — would still be a cover for Moutet. As long as Moutet wins at least three games in two sets and four games in a third, that's all he needs. Sinner has to crush Moutet, and that probably won't happen.
Why Jannik Sinner Could Cover The Spread
Sinner has the talent and ability to hammer Moutet. He is a much better player and, if everything is clicking, can win at least one set 6-2, which would enable him to win by at least nine games. Sinner could win one set 6-4 and another 6-3 as long as he can then crush Moutet in the other set. A 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 win for Sinner would cover the minus-8.5 game spread.
Final Corentin Moutet-Jannik Sinner Prediction & Pick
We took Kotov plus 8.5 games against Sinner. That bet turned out to be correct. Might as well keep riding this train since 8.5 games gives Moutet a reasonable amount of margin.
Final Corentin Moutet-Jannik Sinner Prediction & Pick: Moutet +8.5 games
