Why The Cubs Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Cubs have seen their offense struggle recently. Unfortunately, they are just 26th in batting average and 16th in both on-base percentage and runs. Chicago also ranks 19th in home runs and 24th in slugging percentage.

Nico Hoerner is the leadoff hitter on most days for the Cubs. Yet, he struggled to start the series, going 1 for 4 in the opener and 0 for 5 on Tuesday. The Cubs need him to do a lot more, especially if he is going to be near the top of the lineup. Meanwhile, Michael Busch has been solid. Busch had another good game on Tuesday, going 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs. Therefore, expect him to be a force at the plate as he tries to power the Cubs through.

Dansby Swanson should be one of the best hitters in the lineup. Yet, he stumbled to start the series, going 0 for 4 on Monday and 0 for 4 on Tuesday with a combined five strikeouts. Cody Bellinger has continued to produce. Substantially, he went 2 for 4 on Monday and 2 for 5 with an RBI on Tuesday.

The Cubs have had great pitching. Specifically, they are 10th in team ERA. But the bullpen has struggled, with multiple blown saves. Significantly, another blown save on Tuesday now puts them at 24th in bullpen ERA.

The Cubs covered the spread on Tuesday when the offense finally came alive and battered some baseballs. Therefore, they will cover the spread if they can generate some runs and build an early lead against the Brewers.

Why The Brewers Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Brewers have had some good offense all season. Significantly, they are sixth in batting average and runs while ranking fourth in on-base percentage. The Brew Crew are also ninth in home runs and seventh in slugging percentage.

Willy Adames smacked a home run in the opener. Then, he went 1 for 4 on Tuesday with an RBI. It has not been fun for Christian Yelich. Unfortunately, he went 0 for 4 in the opener and 0 for 3 with a run on Tuesday.

Jackson Chourio has done well for himself against the Cubs. In this series, he battered two hits in the opener before going 0 for 2 on Tuesday. William Contreras continues to have a great season. So far, he went 1 for 4 with a run in the opener and then 0 for 4 with a strikeout on Tuesday.

The Brewers are solid on the mound. Currently, they are 12th in team ERA. The bullpen has also been solid this season. Currently, they rank ninth in team ERA and continue to shut teams down.

The Brewers will cover the spread if their lineup can smack some runs across the place. Then, they need a good game from Rea.

Final Cubs-Brewers Prediction & Pick

Taillon has done well recently but has not been able to secure some wins. Conversely, Rea has had basically the same numbers and managed to win. The question mark for this game is the Chicago lineup. Can they force Rea into long counts and make him work for every out? We believe there is a legitimate chance of that happening. Expect Taillon to dial in and fool the Milwaukee hitters for the second time this season. Cubs cover the spread on the road in the finale.
