The Minnesota Lynx take on the Phoenix Mercury. Our WNBA odds series has our Lynx Mercury prediction, odds, and pick. Find out how to watch Lynx Mercury.
The Minnesota Lynx continue to look like one of the best teams in the WNBA at the moment. Earlier this week, they did what a good team does: They went on the road against a bad opponent and put the hammer down in a 24-point win. The game was never close. Minnesota took a big lead in the first quarter and never looked back. We so often see basketball games in which one team gets a big early lead but then squanders it. The New York Liberty aren't losing often, but they have frequently taken a double-digit lead in the first quarter only to give it all away in the second quarter. The Liberty usually regroup in the fourth quarter to win, but they have made a number of their games far more dramatic than needed. The Lynx have been a steadier team than New York if you want to compare the two; the Lynx also defeated the Liberty convincingly earlier this season.
The Lynx have to be very pleased with their position in the W. They are very much in the hunt for a top-two seed and home-court advantage in multiple playoff rounds. They are playing good ball and hope to maintain their upward trajectory.
They're facing a Phoenix team which has been — shall we say — mercurial in recent weeks. The Mercury have truly lived up to their nickname with a series of performances which have fluctuated wildly between strong and scattered. The Mercury have been blown out by the Lynx in Minnesota, but then they crushed the Los Angeles Sparks before getting thrashed by the Seattle Storm. Maybe this is more a commentary on the quality of opponents they are facing, but it remains that Phoenix has been very “feast or famine” in recent weeks, either playing really well or very poorly.
Let's see what the Merc have in store for the Lynx, one week after getting bullied by Minnesota on the road. This return engagement in Phoenix is therefore intriguing, because we're all wondering if the Mercury can bounce back against a very good team.

Why The Lynx Could Cover The Spread
The Lynx are playing excellent basketball right now. They are getting it done at both ends of the floor. When a team wins 86-62 as Minnesota did against Los Angeles, and it never has any real scoreboard pressure or game-based stress, that is reflective of a team which is working in harmony as a five-player unit. The fact that the Lynx won so easily against Los Angeles earlier this week means the starters got plenty of rest in the fourth quarter and did not have to play extended minutes. That's an ideal lead-in to this game against a Phoenix team Minnesota defeated very easily last week. The Lynx have to feel great about where they stand in this matchup, and on a broader general level.
Why The Mercury Could Cover The Spread
The Mercury could not have played any worse than they did against the Lynx one week ago. One would think they will play a lot better in this game and at least keep the game close enough to cover.
Final Lynx-Mercury Prediction & Pick
The Lynx are on a roll and are fresh and rested. It's really hard to bet against them right now.
Final Lynx-Mercury Prediction & Pick: Lynx -6
