The Los Angeles Dodgers will take on the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night. It's time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Dodgers-Phillies prediction and pick.
Unsurprisingly, the Dodgers have been one of the best teams in the entire MLB. Los Angeles currently sits atop the NL West with a 25-12 record, maintaining a 1.5-game lead on the San Diego Padres. The Phillies, on the other hand, haven't quite had the same success. Philadelphia is 18-20 on the season despite high preseason expectations. They already trail first place in the NL East by a whopping seven games, so they have to begin to turn things around to have a legitimate shot at the postseason.

Why The Dodgers Could Cover The Spread
Los Angeles should have plenty of offensive success in this game. They'll face Philadelphia starter Ranger Suarez, a notably good matchup for the Dodgers' lineup. Suarez's stats are pretty solid at first glance, but a mediocre WHIP of 1.38 doesn't do much to inspire confidence. Five Los Angeles starters have a career batting average of .250 or higher against Suarez. The lefty has also struggled to pitch well in his home stadium, as he allows his opponents to bat .289 while earning a 4.91 ERA in Citizens Bank Park. It's clear that the Dodgers have the upper hand in this matchup between Suarez and their hitters.
There's something to be said for momentum in all sports, and Los Angeles certainly has it here. The Dodgers have won five straight contests, including a full sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Los Angeles managed to surpass five runs scored in every single one of those contests while only allowing more than four runs one time. The Dodgers have been rolling lately, and it's certainly possible that that continues in this contest.
Why The Phillies Could Cover The Spread
The Dodgers will count on starter Julio Urias to take the mound in this matchup. Urias has been fantastic on the year, but this Phillies lineup seems to have his number. Six batters in the lineup have a career batting average of .250 or higher against him. It helps that Philadelphia is better at hitting left-handed pitching, as they earn a higher batting average, OPS, OBP, and slugging percentage against southpaws. The last time Urias faced the Phillies he got rocked for five runs over six innings, and a similar result isn't impossible here.
Home-field advantage should help the Phillies out quite a bit here. Urias is a slightly worse pitcher whenever he plays on the road, earning a higher ERA, WHIP, and batting average allowed. The Dodgers as a whole are a worse offensive team away from home, as they earn worse stats across the board when they play away from Dodger Stadium.
Final Dodgers-Phillies Prediction & Pick
The Dodgers should win this game, but they aren't the best available pick. Instead, the over is much better. Both teams hit their respective opposing pitchers well, and both lineups are capable of putting up big numbers.
Final Dodgers-Phillies Prediction & Pick: Over: 9 (+100)
