The San Francisco Giants travel to the Big Apple to take on the New York Mets in the first of a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. Join us for our  MLB odds series, where our Giants-Mets prediction and pick will be revealed.

After mother nature disrupted these two teams and their series opener on Monday, the Giants will send out RHP Alex Cobb for the afternoon contest while LHP Logan Webb will get the start in the nightcap versus New York. Through nine games thus far this season, the Giants are 7-2, including a perfect 3-0 while out on the road.

The Mets have enjoyed a nice stretch of late, as they have won four out of their past five matchups and are sitting at 7-3 overall, a half-game behind the Giants in the way-too-early NL Wild Card race.

Why The Giants Could Cover the Spread

After an unexpected day off on Monday, the Giants will begin a fresh week by playing twice in one day. In fact, the off-day may prove to be more bad than good, especially with how well the Giants have been playing as of late.

A huge factor why the Giants are experiencing such success so far has been pitching, pitching, and well, more pitching. San Fran has only given up seven runs in their past five games, giving their offense a tremendous chance to alleviate any type of pressure that is felt at the plate. Not only have the Giants' arms been throwing well of late, but it has been a familiar occurrence all season long, as San Francisco is leading the way with the best ERA mark at 2.20 in the entire Major Leagues.

While this alone is already impressive, the Giants are finding ways to make MLB history. With starters surrendering only two games or fewer in nine straight contests, it is the second-longest streak in the past 120 years to open a season, as the 1966 Chicago White Sox are the only squad that has done it longer with 11 consecutive such ballgames. An impressive feat, to say the least, it appears that the Giants may have one of the best staffs and bullpens that the league has to offer.

Alex Cobb is 1-0 to start his 2022 campaign, as the 34-year-old from Boston pitched five innings while setting ten Padres hitters down on strikes. It was no question that Cobb had his breaking ball working early and often, and it showed by only yielding two runs in the handful of innings that he tossed in his season debut. If Cobb can survive the Mets' lineup and help lead the Giants to their six-straight win, then Cy Young hopeful Logan Webb will be lurking in the shadows for the prime time game, as Webb has only given up two runs in 14 innings pitched in his two outings.

If San Francisco can just get an ounce of production from their offensive lineup that is ranked in the upper half of the league in most hitting statistical categories, then the odds of the Giants covering the spread in both games of the doubleheader will be eminent.

Why The Mets Could Cover the Spread

As for New York, the Mets will go through the same process, as they'll give RHP Tylor Megill the nod to begin with and then go with RHP Max Scherzer to try to close things out with a win in the evening. After a pair of games several days ago that put Mets fans in a state of full panic mode, the waters surrounding Queens have seemed to ease ever so slightly.

New York has only tasted defeat once after blowing a lead to the division-rival Phillies back on Apr. 11th, as the Mets have combined timely hitting and overpowering pitching to help them tack on victories in the win column. Similar to the Giants, New York's starters have become nearly un-hittable through its opening ten games of the season, as they have accumulated a 1.07 ERA against opposing batters.

Not only that, but the Mets have found a way to only surrender three runs or less in three of the previous four contests they've suited up for.

However, with both clubs pitching to near perfection through the first few weeks of the 2022 MLB season, who on the Mets will be the difference-maker in covering the spread? Look no further than their pleasantly surprising offensive prowess, as New York has the fourth-most runs scored in the MLB and are rated as the most efficient team when it comes to getting runners on base.

Keep your eye on first-basemen Pete Alonso, whose bat is starting to heat up with a team-leading 14 runs batted in up to this point.

Final Giants-Mets Prediction & Pick

This game serves as a perfect measuring stick for both clubs' trying to figure out just how legit they truly are. The Giants have been slightly more dominant up to this point, and it would be wise to not pick against them until they prove they're no longer trustworthy.

Final Giants-Mets Prediction & Pick: Giants +1.5 (-210)
