The New York Mets will look to take the series as they face the Colorado Rockies in the finale at Coors Field on Sunday afternoon. It's time to continue our MLB odds coverage with a Mets-Rockies prediction and pick.

The Mets and the Rockies split a day-night doubleheader on Saturday. The Mets won the first game 5-1 behind a two-run home run from Starling Marte and a decent pitching performance from Carlos Carasco. Meanwhile, the Rockies took the second game thanks to clutch hitting by CJ Cron and Brian Serven. The Mets are 27-15 and in first place in the NL East. Alternatively, the Rockies are 19-20 and fifth place in the NL West.

Why The Mets Could Cover The Spread

New York will go with Taijuan Walker on the hill. Walker is 1-0 with a 3.52 ERA. He tossed five innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits in his last start against the St. Louis Cardinals last week. Now, Walker looks to maintain some consistency. He has gone past the fifth inning once this season and has walked five batters across three starts. Walker has some offensive support.

The Mets are second in the majors in batting average, second in on-base percentage, and fifth in runs. Alternatively, they are only 19th in home runs. Pete Alonso is their leader there, as he has hit 10 home runs with 36 RBIs. Also, he is batting .286 with a .357 on-base percentage. Francisco Lindor has performed well, slugging six home runs and 23 RBIs.

The Mets like to get on base in any way possible. They rank 10th in walks, and Lindor has helped with 21, while Brandon Nimmo has paced them with 22. However, the Mets also have an issue with leaving runners on base. Yesterday, New York stranded 10 ducks on the pond in the first game and six in the second game. It is an issue that could hinder them if they manage to win the division and face tougher teams in the playoffs. Thus, the Mets must figure out how to capitalize with runners in scoring position.

The Mets will cover the spread if Walker can give them a good outing. Additionally, the Mets must find a way to drive runners home. They face a Rockies pitcher that has shown he can pitch effectively at home.

Why The Rockies Could Cover The Spread

Colorado will roll with Austin Gomber on the mound. Gomber is 2-3 with a 4.38 ERA across seven starts. He allowed three earned runs on four hits through six innings in a start against the Kansas City Royals last week. Now, Gomber tries to find some balance as he has produced a 5.00 ERA in May. He is 1-1 over three starts at Coors and has gone six or more innings two times. He has some support in a Colorado offense that exploded in the second game yesterday.

The Rockies are first in the majors in team batting average, third in on-base percentage, seventh in runs, fourth in slugging percentage, and 13th in home runs. Colorado has found ways to hit the ball in all situations, and not just in the comfy confines of Coors Field.

Cron has a .331 batting average with 11 home runs and 32 RBIs. Also, Ryan McMahon is batting .264 with four home runs and 21 RBIs. \ has been clutch at the plate, hitting .368 with a .417 on-base percentage. The Rockies are finding ways to get runners on base. While they amassed one run in the first game yesterday, they made up for it in the second game.

The Rockies will cover the spread if they can get to Walker early and throw him off his groove. Gomber needs to find his groove and hold down a powerful Mets lineup capable of anything.

Final Mets-Rockies Prediction & Pick

The Mets are the better team by miles. However, they are also playing a Rockies team that would probably be in third place in any other division. New York has its hands full trying to take the final game at Coors. The Rockies scored many runs yesterday, so the law of averages means a slide will happen. The 11-run line is too high to believe that both teams will crush it. However, there is always the chance that both teams get to 11 runs, thus screwing up the line. The Mets are a good team and might figure out a way to win. Expect them to struggle to get there, but the Mets will take the game and the series.

Final Mets-Rockies Prediction & Pick: Mets Moneyline (-124)
