Why The Blazers Could Cover The Spread

The Blazers managed to light up the scoreboard against the Celtics last time out. This is a team that has been torched by the injury bug and it has hurt them this season. They managed to squeeze by a struggling Celtics team last time, but they face a much better team this time out. Even though nobody thought the Raptors would be where they are right now, they still find ways to win games. They have a winning record which is above expectations and they are getting the job done in the East. Portland needs to play exactly how they played against the Celtics if they want a chance at covering the spread.

The Blazers are 18-27 against the spread this season. They have managed to win three of their last five games which is putting them into playoff contention. If they want to stay where they are, they must end this road trip on a high note. CJ McCollum is back and healthy and is playing very well. He needs to lead this team on the offensive side if they want to cover this spread. On the defensive end, they must contain Fred Van Vleet as well as Pascal Siakam.

Why The Raptors Could Cover The Spread

The Raptors are the better team, but this is a spread that is tough to cover. They are at home where they are 12-11 on the season. They don't have to worry about defending very hard because Damian Lillard won't be playing. But McCollum is an elite scoring threat that can't be taken lightly. Norman Powell will be facing his former team and he can light up the scoreboard as well. If the Raptors can shut those two down, then they should be able to hold onto this spread.

Portland is just 5-15 on the road. That is a great sign for the Raptors even though they upset the Celtics on the road two nights ago. These teams square off for the second time this year where the Blazers won the last matchup 118-113. McCollum led the way with 29 points and it's going to have to be a similar production if they want to cover this spread.

Final Blazers-Raptors Prediction & Pick

Because the spread is this big, I'm taking the Blazers to cover in this one. It just makes more sense to bet on that spread versus a .500 team winning by that margin. The Blazers are coming off a good game and should keep that momentum going.

Final Blazers-Raptors Prediction & Pick: Blazers +8.5 (-114)
