The Boston Celtics are finally on a roll after starting the season slowly. They have won five straight games and own a comfortable record at (30-25) on the season. Boston is currently 8th in the East but a win tonight would jump them over the Nets for the 7th seed. A win would put them just 4.5 games back of the conference lead. If they can keep up their streak, we could see the Celtics making a push for a top-3 seed in the East in no time.

The Brooklyn Nets are flat-out struggling. It's as simple as that. Without Kevin Durant, the Nets are not competing like they thought they would. Brooklyn has lost eight straight games and is on the verge of falling out of the playoff picture if they continue to lose games. The Nets are (29-24) on the season and with a loss will be 5.5 games out of the conference lead. Kyrie Irving will not be playing tonight against the Celtics because the game is played in New York. James Harden will not be playing tonight as he could have played his final game as a Net as the trade deadline approaches.

Why The Celtics Could Cover The Spread

Boston should have zero issues covering this spread. None of the Brooklyn's big three will be playing against the Celtics tonight. The top players for Brooklyn will include LaMarcus Aldridge, Blake Griffin, Patty Mills, and Nic Claxton. Those four aren't going to be enough to win this game against the surging Celtics. Aldridge is considered day-to-day right now with an ankle injury so even he could miss the game as well. The Celtics' defense has been on a tear lately holding opponents to just 96.2 points per game over their last 10. That is the best in the NBA over that span and the Celtics defense is really leading them right now. Offensively, they are averaging 110 points with their (7-3) record over that span. If Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown continue to play well, then the Celtics should cover this spread with ease.

Why The Nets Could Cover The Spread

The Nets will not win this game, but with the spread at eight and a half right now, they could cover. Brooklyn would need to see Claxton, Mills, and really anyone else who plays to step up tonight. They need to see players who don't normally contribute, do more than usual against a good Celtics team right now. Defending Tatum and Brown will be very tough, but they can try and keep up offensively by trying to make as many threes as possible. The Nets would need to do something out of the ordinary because they are seriously struggling right now. They are just (2-8) in their last 10 games allowing 117.8 points per game.

Final Celtics-Nets Prediction & Pick

Take the Celtics to cover this spread as the Nets are just not capable of competing lately. If Boston blows this opportunity to cover, then they have some serious problems going on also. The over/under is low as well so consider taking the over at 213.

Final Celtics-Nets Prediction & Pick: Celtics -8.5 (-110) & over: 213 (-110)
