Why The Grizzlies Could Cover The Spread

Article Continues Below

Memphis went on a roll with Ja Morant out of the lineup, but has now lost two in a row since his return. The Grizzlies should be able to hit their stride again as they get used to playing with Morant again, but this might be the wrong spot to get back into the win column as guests in the Chase Center. Jaren Jackson Jr. excelled in Morant's absence, helping Memphis roll off eight wins in ten games. Tyus Jones and Desmond Bane also stepped up and made solid contributions in Morant's absence. The Grizzlies will look to search for the right mix in a tough road matchup vs. the Warriors on Thursday.

The Grizzlies are 9-4 against the spread as the road team this season, and 6-3 as away underdogs. This will be a tough spot however as Golden State is one of the best home teams in the NBA. Memphis is 19-13 overall vs. the spread this season.

Why The Warriors Could Cover The Spread

Stephen Curry is off to an MVP start this season as the Warriors look like they could be primed for a run back to the NBA Finals. Golden State will be without Andre Iguodala (knee soreness), Damion Lee (health and safety protocols), Jordan Poole (health and safety protocols) and Andrew Wiggins (health and safety protocols). Klay Thompson and James Wiseman also remain out as they work their way back from injury. The Warriors could be in good position to win and cover at home in this spot as Curry and Draymond Green appear good to go.

The Warriors are 15-2 overall at home this season and 12-4-1 vs. the spread in those games. Golden State is 19-10-2 overall vs. the spread this season and 17-8-2 as the favorites. The Warriors are 4-5-1 vs. the spread across their last ten games, but have covered in three of their last four.

Final Grizzlies-Warriors Prediction and Pick

These teams played a close game in the ‘play-in' games ahead of the 2021 NBA Playoffs. Expect another close one here as the Warriors are missing some rotation pieces in this one. The Warriors may very well pull out the win, but take the Grizzlies and the points here. This should be a close one, so taking the points feels a bit safer than laying half a dozen with the somewhat shorthanded Warriors. Memphis might be a sneaky play to win on the moneyline, too.

Final Grizzlies-Warriors Prediction & Pick: Grizzlies +6 (-114)
