The Atlanta Hawks are coming off of a 9-point loss to the Toronto Raptors last time out. They are (25-27) on the season which puts them 10th in the Eastern Conference. The Dallas Mavericks beat the Philadelphia 76ers two nights ago after a come-from-behind win. They are now (30-23) on the season which puts them fifth in the West. This has the makings of a really exciting interconference matchup!

Why The Hawks Could Cover The Spread
Article Continues BelowThe Hawks have played themselves into a playoff position after a solid start to the 2022 calendar year. They started the season off slowly like they did in 2020-21, but ended up making a run at the Eastern Conference Finals. This year, they are on track to do the same thing but will need to keep winning to be a lock for the playoffs. Atlanta has the talent to win games, they just haven't been playing as a full team this year. Trae Young is third in the NBA in scoring at 27.9 points per game.
Atlanta is just 10-15 on the road this season while the Mavs are 17-10 at home. The Hawks won the first matchup of the season against the Mavs back in October 113-87. That was a blowout if you have ever seen one as Luke Doncic scored just 18 in what was one of their worst performances of Doncic's career. If the Hawks play as they did in their first matchup they will clearly cover this spread, but they don't play nearly as well on the road.
Why The Mavericks Could Cover The Spread
Dallas will need to play exactly how they played against the 76ers and they will be just fine. The Mavs struggled early in that game but didn't quit and came back to defeat Joel Embiid and the Sixers. The 3rd quarter is where the game change completely. Down 10 to start the second half, Dallas held the Sixers to just 15 points while scoring 32 to retake the lead heading into the fourth quarter. Doncic ended with 33 points, 15 assists, and 13 rebounds. Doncic is now 2nd all-time behind Oscar Robinson in (30-15-10) games with nine. The Hall 0f Famer has 22 careers (30-15-10) games. Doncic continues to dominate the NBA at a young age and it will be interesting to see how he continues to elevate his game. If he is on his game then the Mavs will more than likely cover this spread.
Dallas does need to be aware of Trae Young as he can torch any team and light any arena up. The Hawks recently upset the Phoenix Suns and ended their 11-game win streak. Young scored 43 in the win and so that is proof that the Hawks can beat anyone if Young is on his game. Dallas must not let him get hot because the entire Hawks roster can shoot. When Young is on his game the entire team benefits from it.
Final Hawks-Mavericks Prediction & Pick
This is a good matchup and it should be a close game. I don’t see the Hawks dominating the Mavs like they did early in the season. I like the Mavs to win this game and cover at home. Consider taking the over as well as both offenses are hot.
Final Hawks-Mavericks Prediction & Pick: Mavericks -1.5 (-112) & over: 221.5 (-110)
