The NBA will showcase this interconference matchup between the Miami Heat and New Orleans Pelicans! It's time to continue our NBA odds series with a Heat-Pelicans prediction and pick.
The Miami Heat sit atop the Eastern Conference standings with a (35-20) record. They just defeated the Washington Wizards last time out and are on a three-game winning streak. As for the Pelicans, they made a splash when they acquired CJ McCollum from the Portland Trail Blazers. He should make his debut tonight and that will be a major bonus for the Pelicans. They are coming off of a win over the Houston Rockets last time out.

Why The Heat Could Cover The Spread
The Heat will be without a few players tonight but it won't be anything serious enough to hurt them. Tyler Herro missed the last game with a knee injury, but the Heat recently saw the return of Kyle Lowry. The Heat have their starting lineup back and ready to compete for the second half of the season. First, they have a tough test against an improved Pelicans team. The Heat will now need to try and contain McCollum as well as Brandon Ingram. Ingram is lighting it up this season averaging 22.9 points per game. McCollum is averaging north of 20 a game as well and so the Heat will need their defense to step up tonight. Both teams are 6-4 in their last 10 games and both teams seem to be heading in the right direction.
Why The Pelicans Could Cover The Spread
With McCollum set to make his debut tonight, the Pelicans have a great chance to cover this spread at home. They come in as the underdogs and that is the right decision. New Orleans is currently 10th in the West which would put them in a play-in spot. As of right now, they seem like they could go on a run after acquiring one of the league's best offensive players. They don't have Zion Williamson ready to play and it's unclear when he will be ready. If the Pelicans can go on a run now, they will more than likely finish the season in the top-10 which would give them a shot. They have a big test tonight as they try and take down one of the league's best teams. The Heat are playing very well and they are almost at full strength again.
Final Heat-Pelicans Prediction & Pick
This is going to be an exciting matchup to pay attention to. The new-look Pelicans will have to play extremely well to take down the Heat tonight, but I think they have a chance to cover this spread. Take the Pelicans and hope the Heat have trouble figuring them out. The over seems like a good option as well as it seems like a smaller over/under for this type of atmosphere.
