The Atlanta Hawks and Charlotte Hornets will matchup on Sunday evening in an Eastern Conference matchup. It's time to continue our NBA odds series with a Hornets-Hawks prediction and pick.

The Hornets and Hawks will meet in a Southeast division matchup on Sunday. Atlanta will look to bounce back after a tough loss vs. the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night, while Charlotte will look to pull off the upset without several key players. LaMelo Ball and Terry Rozier are both out in health and safety protocols, as is center Mason Plumlee. The Hawks come in as big favorites on their home floor, but they also have a pair of starters out in this one. Starting wings De'Andre Hunter and Bogdan Bogdanovic are both out for the foreseeable future for the Hawks. Additionally, Trae Young, Kevin Huerter and Cam Reddish are all questionable for the Hawks.

Here are the Hornets-Hawks odds for this Sunday NBA matchup, courtesy of FanDuel.

Why The Hornets Can Cover The Spread

Article Continues Below

Charlotte will face a truly uphill battle without Ball and Rozier. Ball obviously accounts for a ton of their offense and they don't have another passer even close to as good as he is. Gordon Hayward will have to play on the ball more in this one as he and Miles Bridges will look to carry the Hornets to the upset win. Atlanta has some key guys, notably Young, questionable as well so monitor their injury report before placing your bets. The Hornets will have a much better chance at the cover and the win if Young is out, even factoring in that the line may change to a pick 'em.

The Hornets might be in better shape than things appear at first glance as the Hawks may also be banged up in this one. If Young and Huerter play for the Hawks, they should be able to control this game though. Charlotte is 13-11 against the spread this season, but obviously you can toss all the Charlotte stats with Ball and Rozier out.

Why The Hawks Can Cover The Spread

Young and Huerter being questionable is the big thing to watch here. With Bogdanovic and Hunter already out, the Hawks would be down five of their top six players if Young and Huerter don't go on Sunday. If they do go, the Hawks should be in good shape to pick up the win and the cover vs. a Charlotte team that is missing some really key elements. Ball and Rozier provide much of the spark for the Hornets on both ends, as their steals and long rebounds are often what starts the Hornets elite fast break attack. If the Hawks can get their star player suited up on Sunday, they should be able to pull out the win as well as the cover. But again, wait for the final injury report before betting on Atlanta.

The Hawks are 10-13 vs. the spread so far this season.

Final Hornets-Hawks Prediction & Pick

Young and Huerter are durable and typically suit up, so until they are ruled out we are going to assume they are in. If they are indeed in, take the Hawks to cover and win vs. the short-handed Hornets on Sunday night.

Final Hornets-Hawks Prediction & Pick: Hawks -6.5 (-114)
