The NBA will showcase this elite Western Conference battle between the Dallas Mavericks and the Golden State Warriors. It's time to continue our NBA odds series with a Mavericks-Warriors prediction and pick.
The Dallas Mavericks are coming off of a 5-point loss to the Utah Jazz last time out 114-109. Luka Doncic finished with 23 points but on only 8/24 shooting. Dallas fell to (35-25) on the season which is still good for 5th in the West. The Golden State Warriors are coming off of a blowout win over the Portland Trail Blazers when the second half of the season tipped off. They dominated the Blazers by 37 points and Portland had no chance from the beginning. The Warriors are now (43-17) which is good for 2nd in the West and 2nd in the NBA overall.

Why The Mavericks Could Cover The Spread
Dallas comes into this matchup as the underdogs on the road and that is the right call. This spread is currently at three points so if the Mavs want to cover, they must keep this a one-possession game until the final horn. Luke Doncic will need to have a bounceback game in the worst way. If he doesn't I don't think there is any chance the Mavs cover this spread. With Kristaps Porzingis now in Washington, the next best player is Jalen Brunson. Spencer Dinwiddie is averaging 10 points and 2.7 assists since arriving in Dallas, but they don't have the frontcourt help right now. Dwight Powell continues to be the Mavs ironman because it feels like he hasn't missed a game for the Mavs in literally a decade.
On the defensive end, clearly, the Mavs need to find a way to disrupt Steph Curry's rhythm. He only scored 18 in the blowout win over the Blazers but he attempted 11 shots. They didn't need him so it's safe to say Curry will be fresh after winning the All-Star game MVP in the city here was born in.
Why The Warriors Could Cover The Spread
Golden State has a real good chance of covering this spread tonight. The Mavs are coming off a tough loss, so they will be playing a little harder this evening. It's going to take a solid effort from the Warriors tonight to try and contain Doncic. I have a feeling this will be one of those big-time games from Doncic. This game is on a national stage on ESPN tonight, and this is the moment Doncic was made for. With Curry on the other side expected to play well, expect Doncic to match it and attempt to take over the game himself. The Warriors can not let that happen or else the Mavs will have a chance to cover this spread late in the 4th quarter. These teams play for the third time this season. Golden State won the last matchup after Jonathan Kuminga ended with 22 points to help the Dubs get past the Mavs.
Final Mavericks-Warriors Prediction & Pick
Both teams are very good against the West this season. This is a tricky spread to pick, but I have to go with the Warriors at home here. I think Doncic will play an incredible game but they will be just short. This over/under is very low even though both teams have good defenses. Expect this to be a high-scoring affair.
