The NBA continues Wednesday night with this New York rivalry! It's time to continue our NBA odds series with a Nets-Knicks prediction and pick.

The Brooklyn Nets are miserable right now. They finally earned a win after losing 10 straight games but it was against the Sacramento Kings. The Nets are now (30-27) on the season which puts them 8th in the Eastern Conference. As for the Knicks, their season is also turning into ashes as they have not been able to get it done at all this season. The Knicks are struggling to win games and have lost two straight. They are (25-33) on the season which puts them 12th in the East.

Why The Nets Could Cover The Spread

Article Continues Below

The Nets are coming into this game as the underdog which makes sense right now. Ben Simmons will not suit up until he is ready and Kevin Durant is out for the next few more weeks. Kyrie Irving will not play in this game even though it's on the road because it's in NY. So once again, the Nets won't have any of their big three. They will need to rely on newly added Seth Curry and Andre Drummond to lead the team in the meantime. Drummond and Curry both played well in the win over the Kings last time out. They both will need to do the same against the Knicks, as well as Patty Mills and LaMarcus Aldridge.

Brooklyn is still 20-12 against the East this season but just 15-19 against teams with winning records. Luckily for them, the Knicks have a losing record and are 14-21 against the East. The Nets have a lot of advantages in this game but without their stars, they need to continue to rely on their role players. The Nets won the last matchup back when James Harden played, as he scored 34 in the win. Brooklyn will need to defend Julius Randle to the best of their abilities and not let Evan Fournier shoot the lights out.

Why The Knicks Could Cover The Spread

RJ Barrett isn't going to play as he'll miss the rest of the week until after the All-Star break. The Knicks will be a little short-handed as the Nets are. Derrick Rose and Nerlens Noel continue to sit out with foot injuries so the Knicks will also be playing with a next-man-up mentality. New York is 2-8 in their last 10 games averaging just 110 points per game and allowing 116. The defense will need to step up because there are a lot of high-powered offenses at the top of the conference. If the Knicks want any success this season, it starts on that side of the floor.

Both teams are bad against the spread this season. Brooklyn is 21-35-1 ATS and the Knicks are 26-32. The difference in this game will be whoever steps up on the defensive end because there won't be much elite talent being displayed.

Final Nets-Knicks Prediction & Pick

This is a pretty difficult game to choose. I'm assuming there won't be much defense played so I would consider taking the over in this game. Neither side is playing well so it's impossible to pick a winner here.

Final Nets-Knicks Prediction & Pick: Over 217 (-110)
