Why The Spurs Could Cover The Spread

Memphis has a few guys in the protocols while the Spurs only have one in Murray. San Antonio should have a depth edge in this one, but they will still have to deal with Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. The Spurs come into Friday as the No. 10 seed in the West, winners of six of their last ten games. The Spurs are 8-14 vs. the Western Conference this season and have the third best scoring average in the West at 111.5 points per game. Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, Derrick White and others will look to pick up the slack with Murray out of the lineup.

The Spurs are 20-13 vs. the spread this season, and 14-9 as underdogs. More specifically, the Spurs are 9-4 as away underdogs. This could be a sneaky spot to play the Spurs despite them being down one of their better players in Murray. San Antonio has covered in four straight and seven of their last ten.

Why The Grizzlies Could Cover The Spread

The Grizzlies with be without the following players for Friday's contest due to health and safety protocols: Dillon Brooks, Jarrett Culver, John Konchar, De'Anthony Melton and Xavier Tillman. Sam Merrill and Ziaire Williams are also out with ankle sprains. Four or five of those guys are legitimate rotation options for Memphis, so this line feels a little inflated as many these lesser known players being out is not being factored by the public. This is a factor however as it leaves the Grizzlies shorthanded at multiple positions. The Grizzlies enter play on Friday as the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference and winners of seven out of their last ten games.

Memphis vs. the spread

The Grizzlies are 21-15 vs. the spread overall this season and 5-5 in their last ten games. Memphis is 6-8 against the spread as home favorites this season and has not covered in four of their last five home games.

Final Spurs-Grizzlies Prediction and Pick

Take the Spurs and the points here. The Grizzlies are the better team but missing nearly half of their rotation. San Antonio is getting quite a few points and only down one player. While Murray is one of if not the best player on the Spurs, they should still be able to make this a competitive game.
