Why The Suns Could Cover The Spread
The Phoenix Suns are the best team in the NBA. When this Suns team is fully healthy, they are capable of taking down every other team in the league. Through their first 72 games, they have a dominant record of 58-14. The Suns only adversity this season has come in the form of injuries. They have won their last five games, with their most recent win coming in overtime against the Kings. While that game should not have gone to overtime, the Suns still managed to come out ahead and add to their win streak. Phoenix faces a competitive opponent in Minnesota on Wednesday. The Suns should be able to walk away victorious as long as they come in ready and keep their energy high for four quarters.
The Suns struggled to dominate the Kings for two reasons, free throws, and three-pointers. Phoenix over-fouled in that game and ended up shooting nine fewer free throws than the Kings. Additionally, the Suns couldn't keep pace with the Kings' three-point shooting, taking six fewer threes and making four less than Sacramento. In spite of all this, the Suns still managed to end that game on top. This shows that even when Phoenix has an off night, it doesn't mean that they are going to lose. The Suns are tenacious and have proven time and time again that they will grind for every minute of the game. This makes them one of the toughest teams to play against.
Article Continues BelowThe biggest roadblock for the Suns is injuries. Currently, Phoenix has five players listed on their injury report, all of which are out for Wednesday's game. If the Suns were completely healthy they would be a big favorite to win it all this year, yet without players like Chris Paul, the odds are a bit closer. Phoenix still has more than enough of their roster intact to win tough games, and they could definitely steal this win on the road.
Why The Timberwolves Could Cover The Spread
The Minnesota Timberwolves have had a solid season this year. While they may not be the best team in the league, they are consistently competitive and have a record to show for it. Through 73 games the Wolves have secured a winning record of 42-31. Minnesota has battled this season and is looking to set themselves up for a playoff push. They are coming off a tough two-point loss to the Dallas Mavericks but had managed to win the four games prior to that. This Wolves team is more than capable of competing with the best teams in the league. When their best players show up and play to their abilities, Minnesota looks impressive.
The Wolves were barely edged out in their loss to Dallas. Minnesota found themselves in a hole early but managed to dig themselves out throughout the game. That type of grit and tenacity is a valuable skill for a team, and even though they didn't win that game they showed a lot of heart. This match-up against Phoenix will be equally, if not even more demanding than their last. The Suns are not an opponent to take lightly, so if the Wolves want to compete they will need to bring their A-game.
Minnesota has managed to stay mostly healthy this season. However, they currently have two players listed on their injury report. Of those two players, only Karl-Anthony Towns is listed as questionable for Wednesday's match. KAT's availability will have huge implications on the outcome of this game. Without KAT, Deandre Ayton will likely dominate the paint and give the Suns a huge edge. If KAT does play, this game will be much more even and likely competitive for all four quarters.
Final Suns-Timberwolves Prediction & Pick
This is a tough pick. Whenever there is a one-point spread, it basically means that anything can happen. However, in this case, the Suns should have the edge. Regardless of KAT's status, Phoenix is a fierce opponent and has been competing against teams of all calibers all season long. There is only upside if you pick Phoenix, because if KAT ends up missing this game then the Suns should have this completely locked up. Pick Phoenix to win and cover.
