Why the Netherlands Will Win

The Dutch are routinely in the tournament and will be a contender to battle the French. Overall, this is their 10th appearance in the Euros and they will try and stay with France.

Manager Ronald Koeman wants his squad ready to play. Ultimately, that means ensuring they are ready on defense. Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen looks to keep things steady. Meanwhile, his defense hopes to help him out.

Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool is the best defender, along with Nathan Ake of Manchester City. Then, there is Denzel Dumfries of Inter Milan. Daley Blind of Girona can also make a defense. Unfortunately, the Dutch will not have Jurrien Timber from Arsenal as he has a torn ACL.

But the player to watch is Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona. Yet, he is working back from an ankle injury. Jerdy Schouten thrived with four goals in 28 matches in the PSV.

The forwards have some question marks. Substantially, Xavi Simons had eight goals and 11 assists over 32 matches for RB Leipzig. Simons also added two goals and two assists over eight Champions League matchups. Unfortunately, he did not score in any of the qualifiers. But Gapko came through the opener and he will answer the call if the others fail.

The Netherlands will win if they can make good connections on their passes and avoid mistakes. Then, they must stop Mbappe and Giroud.

Why France Will Win

The French are the overwhelming favorites to win it all. But first, they must take care of the Group Stage and that includes the Netherlands. Manager Didier Deschamp believes he has the perfect squad to do it.

Goalkeeper Mike Maignan of AC Milan is coming back from a thigh injury, and it might hinder his performance. Thus, he might need more help from his defense. Defender William Saliba will be key in this showdown, as will Ibrahima Konate. But there will also be eyes on Theo Hernandez and if he can make some good plays on the pitch.

Adrien Rabiot leads the midfield. Likewise, there is Antoine Griezmann of Atletico Madrid, who can certainly make an impact. He had one goal in two matches.

Olivier Giroud is 38 years old. Yet, he can still make an impact on the pitch. Mbappe is not expected to play in this battle after breaking his nose in the opener. Unfortunately, that is concerning because he scored the only two goals in the last battle so someone else will have to step up. While the squad is designing a custom mask for him, he may need to sit out a minimum period before he suits up again.

France had its share of success despite not scoring a goal. The 88 percent passing accuracy was exceptional. However, France only had a 49 percent possession rate and a 47 percent tackle success rate. France also managed only two corner kicks.

France will win this matchup if their midfielders and strikers can create plays and outrun the Netherlands. The possession rate must improve.

Final Netherlands-France Prediction & Pick

The Netherlands is the biggest challenge to the French in the Group Stage. However, the talent level is much larger on the French side. While the Dutch have the ability to stay with France, they will ultimately fall short. Expect France to trickle a goal or two thanks to the amazing talents of Mbappe and Giroud before they hold on for a big win in the second match of the Group Stage. France is the pick here and the one to hold off the Netherlands.
