Why The Canucks Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Canucks are coming off of a three-game homestand after the All-Star break where they went 2-1. Vancouver has alternated wins and losses over their past eight games, and because they won their last game, the trend would say a loss is in order for them here. In fact, they're 0-4 in their past four after winning a game. However, they haven't played since Saturday though, which could actually be a good sign for Vancouver and their injury nightmares, including rising star young defenseman, Quinn Hughes, who is reportedly questionable for tonight's game and joining the team in San Jose. Another star player for the Canucks, Elias Pettersson, is also questionable to return from injury tonight.

While these injuries have really put a damper on the Canucks' offensive abilities, their goaltending in Thatcher Demko has been keeping them in games, to say the least. He's their clear number one netminder as he'll likely get the start between the pipes again tonight, allowing 2.53 goals against with a .921 save percentage through 37 games. Demko will look to be the savior for the Canucks tonight as they will lean on him to help head back home with two extra points.

Why The Sharks Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Sharks have dropped four-straight losses dating back since before the All-Star break, and their standings in the Pacific Division have reflected that. San Jose is now in second-to-last with only 48 points, but not out of a playoff spot just yet. It'll take some work and a potential hot streak to start soon, but with the help of star players Timo Meier and Logan Couture, the Sharks look to grab two extra points at home tonight. Defending the home crease tonight should be James Reimer, who is averaging 2.82 goals against per game with a .916 save percentage. He'll look to shut the door tonight on a struggling Vancouver team and get his team back on track for playoff contentions.

Final Canucks-Sharks Prediction & Pick

In a game like this where both teams aren't very good, it can go one of two ways: either non-stop scoring, back and forth or very low scoring, there's no in-between – and I'm willing to bet on the former. With that said, both teams are very sub .500 when it comes to the over, but as we always say, life is too short to bet the under. Plus, rooting for points is always much more exciting, not to mention an over is listed in plus money, and I want to take full advantage while I can. Look for both teams to put up a handful of goals tonight, but somehow they will both still find a way to keep it close.

Final Canucks-Sharks Prediction & Pick: Over 5.5 (+102)
