The Vancouver Canucks will head into Long Island tonight to take on the New York Islanders as they look to keep their playoff aspirations alive. The Canucks got pummeled on Monday against New Jersey as they lost 7-2, but still remain on the bubble for a playoff spot. They currently sit just five points out of a wild card position, but they have a lot of company fighting for that same spot. The Islanders on the other hand are pretty much out of the race, as the Eastern playoffs are practically set, team-wise. Can the Canucks stay in the hunt? It’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Canucks-Islanders prediction and pick.

Article Continues BelowWhy The Canucks Can Cover The Spread/Win
The Vancouver Canucks have been mainly slept on all year but have remained strong lately after going 5-2 in their last seven games, including wins over top teams in Calgary, New York, and Toronto. Most of their success has come from goaltender Thatcher Demko, as he's keeping the Canucks afloat and giving them plenty of chances to win games. Demko should be getting another start between the pipes tonight as he is having a breakout year, going 23-16-2 with a .918 save percentage and allowing 2.59 goals against on the season. As long as he can keep the Canucks in it, this game is looking like it should be pretty low-scoring, regardless if the Canucks have a solid top-nine up-front.
Why The Islanders Can Cover The Spread/Win
The New York Islanders are currently on a 3-5-2 stretch, including losses to Buffalo, Montreal, and San Jose. The Islanders will definitely be looking into being sellers when the trade deadline comes along, as they've all but ended their playoff hopes. Offensively, the Islanders have looked far from dynamic this season, scoring just 2.54 goals per game.
Their defense hasn't been a whole lot better as we can expect to see goaltender Ilya Sorokin in net again tonight to defend the home crease. He has been overall pretty average this season but has slowly started to trend downwards after a hot start to the season. Sorokin is 17-12-7 while posting a .922 save percentage on the year along with allowing 2.42 goals per game. He'll look to shut the door on a hot Canucks team tonight and potentially keep the Islanders' playoff hopes alive.
Final Canucks-Islanders Prediction & Pick
The Islanders beat the Canucks 6-3 the last time these two teams met earlier this month, but Vancouver has been extremely tough to beat lately while Demko is in the net, which is where he'll be tonight. I think the Canucks will stay hot and keep their aspirations alive tonight in, essentially, a pick 'em matchup tonight. I would also lean towards the under 5.5, but I'm not confident enough in that pick to make it final. Give me the underdogs on the road tonight.
