The Vegas Golden Knights will head into Chicago to take on the Blackhawks in tonight's matchup. This is a do-or-die situation for the Knights tonight as they are still technically in the running for the last wild card spot in the West. They would need a miracle to pull it off, but there's still a chance. The Blackhawks have been out of the playoffs, basically since the season started. With that, it’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Golden Knights-Blackhawks prediction and pick.

Why The Golden Knights Can Cover The Spread/Win

Article Continues Below

The Vegas Golden Knights come into the game on the second leg of a back-to-back after nearly getting eliminated from the playoffs last night with a loss to the Stars in a shootout. While it's still possible, it's highly unlikely that they'll make the playoffs, which will be the first year they miss since they've become a team. They're going to have to dig deep and find that motivation to win here tonight, regardless if they make it into the playoffs or not. It's easy to say that injuries held the Knights back this season, which is a fair statement, but at the end of the day, that's just how the cookie crumbles.

Goaltender Logan Thompson will look to take the net in this game, even after starting in last night's matchup. As long as they can focus on their own game and get a win, you never know what else can happen around the league.

Why The Blackhawks Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Chicago Blackhawks are looking to finish the season out strong, regardless of their poor performance this season. Of course, Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat are having good seasons, but the rest of the team is the main issue. They'll be lucky to grab a lottery pick in the draft this year, but sometimes luck is all you need. Starting in goal tonight for the Hawks will likely be Collin Delia, who is sporting a .896 save percentage and a 4.06 goals-against average. He'll look to take the Hawks into the offseason on a high note.

Final Golden Knights-Blackhawks Prediction & Pick

The Knights are the overall better team, we know that, but the Knights are at a low point right now with zero momentum whatsoever. They know they're going to miss the playoffs for the first time and it can be crushing for players who just wanted it so bad but let it slip. With that said, with nothing to play for, the Hawks are in a good position to upset tonight. Do I trust that they'll win, not necessarily, but I think they have a good chance if they take advantage of a depressed Knights team. I like the value for the Hawks Moneyline tonight, but I'm going to play it safe and just take the over.

Final Golden Knights-Blackhawks Prediction and Pick: Over 6.5 (-120)
