Why The Knights Can Cover The Spread/Win

Article Continues Below

The Knights begin a two-night road trip tonight after coming into this game looking to bounce back from a shocking three-game losing streak, including a 4-3 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Friday. Vegas has a lot of offensive capabilities in Max Pacioretty and now Jack Eichel, but this Knights team surprisingly hasn't been putting up huge goal totals and keeping it low scoring, which is especially true on the road as five of their last six away games have had six or fewer total goals scored. Part of the reason for these low-scoring games is from goaltender Laurent Brossoit, who has taken over the starting role for now while Robin Lehner remains out due to injury.

Brossoit has been a solid backup netminder though, despite his save percentage of only .903 and allowing 2.70 goals against. It's unsure if he'll get the start in net tonight, but it's leaning toward he will. The Knights will look to get back on track with a win against the Sharks tonight and keep looking up towards that number one spot in the Pacific, just four points back from the Calgary Flames.

Why The Sharks Can Cover The Spread/Win

San Jose hasn't been playing great hockey as of late, which is unfortunate considering their great start to the season earlier in the year. The Sharks come into this game on a five-game losing streak, coming off of a 5-4 overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday. Similar to Vegas, the Sharks have also been trending towards low-scoring games recently, where the total goals scored have been six or fewer in 10 of their last 14 games, and 19-29 (39%) on the season when it comes to covering the over.

San Jose's star players in Timo Meier, Logan Couture, and Tomas Hertl have been producing well, but the rest of the offensive group has been silent, making the Sharks rank 20th in the league in 5-on-5 scoring capabilities. However, the low-scoring games for the Sharks can be credited towards goaltender James Reimer, who will look to patrol the home crease tonight for the Sharks. He comes into this game with a .913 save percentage and allows 2.90 goals per game as he looks to shut down an offensively ruthless Golden Knights squad.

Final Knights-Sharks Prediction & Pick

Both goaltenders will come to play tonight as they both look to help propel their respective teams into playing better. However, they can't get wins if the offense in front of them can't help them out. I think it'll be a close game, but the low-scoring capabilities of both teams worry me. Over the last 10 meetings between these two teams, they've combines for six or fewer goals in seven of them. The odds are not great for an under here tonight, but that's because oddsmakers know these trends too. I think the Knights will secure a win tonight, so you can sprinkle some bets on their Moneyline, but I like the trends for the under for this matchup.

Final Knights-Sharks Prediction & Pick: Under 6 (-122)
