The Connecticut Sun take on the Seattle Storm. Our WNBA odds series has our Sun Storm prediction, odds, and pick. Find out how to watch Sun Storm.

This is a fascinating matchup. It doesn't have Caitlin Clark or the defending champion Las Vegas Aces or the always-compelling New York Liberty, but it has two really good teams whose place in the WNBA is a subject of intense debate for people who follow this league closely. Are the Sun and the Storm ready to stand up to the top teams in the league? We just saw the Las Vegas Aces decisively defeat both of these teams with Chelsea Gray back in their lineup after an injury. How will the Sun and Storm respond to — and learn from — those losses to Vegas? This game is therefore a good measuring stick for these teams relative to Vegas, but it's also a measuring stick for these teams relative to each other. Making the playoffs isn't going to be a question for either of these teams, but making the WNBA semifinals and getting a chance to reach the WNBA Finals is a central goal. We might have a better idea of how the WNBA's upper echelon is aligned after this game in Seattle on a packed Sunday afternoon schedule.

Why The Sun Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Sun are better than the Storm — maybe not by a lot, but enough to win this game. It is notable that of the four WNBA games on Sunday, three have point spreads under two points. This is one of them. Basically, three of the four games on the W's Sunday slate are virtual toss-ups. Pick the winner, and you pick the spread winner too, barring a 1-point win for the favorite.

Connecticut and Seattle, as mentioned above, both got handled relatively easily by the Las Vegas Aces this past week. The Aces returned to industrial strength with the appearance of Chelsea Gray in their lineup. The fact that the Sun and Storm both lost handily to Vegas can be viewed as an advantage for Connecticut in this game in Seattle. The Sun aren't operating at a “desperation deficit.” If the Sun had beaten the Aces and the Storm had lost to Vegas, Seattle might be the more motivated team here. However, since the Sun also lost to the Aces, they're going to be just as driven to win. All other things being equal, Connecticut is superior. We mention the intangibles only to say that they don't clearly lean toward Seattle. That makes us feel better about picking Connecticut.

Why The Storm Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Storm haven't played since Wednesday. The Sun played on Friday in Las Vegas. The Storm will be fresher. Also, Seattle hasn't played at home since June 11. The crowd will be energized for this game, and the Storm should have a little more in the tank.

Final Sun-Storm Prediction & Pick

The Storm have a rest advantage, but the Sun are the better team. Our official recommendation: Pass. Wait for a live play.
