Former NBA player Gilbert Arenas says that his team — the Enemies — are the Los Angeles Lakers of the BIG3.

The Enemies –a team comprised of Arenas, Perry Jones III, Royce White, Craig Smith, Frank Robinson, Derrick Byars, and head coach Rick Mahorn — is out playoff contention but is still making its presence felt. They are the only ones who have a mascot in the league. And during games, the gorilla goes around the crowd serving as a marketing vehicle for The No Chill Podcast — a podcast which Arenas runs. For the three-time NBA All-Star, they can be compared with the Lakers given how they go about their business.

“We're the Lakers. That's how I look at it,” Arenas says, per Leo Sepkowitz of The Athletic. “We are what everyone should be looking at, with how we maneuvered our business.”

The Lakers, of course, are one of the most popular teams not just in basketball, but in all of sports. Their selling point is their legendary franchise in itself. The iconic players who have donned the iconic Purple and Gold jerseys — most of which have become part of American culture — continue to represent the Laker brand and its rich culture. They did all this simply by winning and snagging titles in the 80s and in the 2000s.

Evidently, this is something that Arenas and his team haven't done yet. Missing the playoffs is a clear indication of this. But Arenas claims that he has ‘tricks up in his sleeve.' The BIG3 might be a totally different league from the NBA. But the players' competitive spirit, especially Arenas, remains fully intact.
