The Miami Dolphins have a lot of areas that they'll have to address in the off-season if they want to be the team that everyone knows they can be in this league.

Despite the fact that they did not make the playoffs this season, there are still some things to be proud of, since they are a young team with the potential to one day be one of the best in the NFL. Miami, on the other hand, had games where they looked like one of the worst teams in the league and a squad that needed to make significant changes. Fortunately for the Dolphins, they were able to take care of business towards the conclusion of the season, demonstrating to everyone that they were only going through a hard patch at the start of the year.

Let's take a look at the biggest needs that the Miami Dolphins are going to have to address during the 2022 offseason.

Dolphins Off-Season Needs

3. Who is going to be the head coach?

The Miami Dolphins opted to fire head coach Brian Flores, which was a highly fascinating and questionable choice. Flores had clearly demonstrated that he can ignite a team, and it appears that many Dolphins wanted to play for him. Although there were some doubts about his offensive mind, he was one of the top defensive coaches in the game, as Miami has had one of the best defenses in the league for the previous two seasons.

Brian Daboll was thought to be interested in joining the Miami Dolphins, but he just accepted a job as the head coach of the New York Giants. There are still a number of candidates for the Miami Dolphins head coaching job, and it will be intriguing to see what they choose.

They must accept the fact that they will require an offensive-minded coach if they are to achieve the results they desire. If they don't get an offensive-minded coach, firing Brian Flores makes even less sense than it did before. Mike McDaniel of the San Francisco 49ers is said to be a target for Miami. If Miami decides to bring him in, he's had a lot of success with the 49ers, so he may be a nice fit.

2. Is Tua Tagovailoa the starting quarterback?

There will be many questions regarding the Miami Dolphins this summer, but this will be the most important. There are speculations that they are still interested in the Houston Texans' DeShaun Watson. Tua didn't have a poor year by any stretch of the imagination, but claiming that DeShaun Watson wouldn't be a better player than him is simply untrue.

Watson is one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL, and he would undoubtedly help the Dolphins go back to their former glory. Miami hasn't had much success in the last decade, but they've shown spurts over the last few seasons that they're a team with a bright future, and perhaps if they go out and find an elite quarterback, they'll be able to fulfill the potential that they're after.

What Miami has done to Tua is everything a front office and organization should never do to a quarterback in his young career. They've had their owner come out and say that they're not sure whether he was the right draft selection, they've benched him, and they simply haven't been there to support someone who clearly needs it as he's still new to the NFL and is still so young.

He is definitely not as talented as Joe Burrow or Justin Herbert, but he is still a very solid NFL quarterback with the potential to be one of the best in the league if he is properly developed. Bringing in DeShaun Watson, on the other hand, would immediately elevate the Miami Dolphins to a contender in their division, and potentially even a team capable of winning the Super Bowl if he is surrounded by the proper components.

1. Offensive line

The Miami Dolphins will continue to struggle to find success next season, regardless of who their quarterback is if they do not address their apparent offensive line concerns.

Tua should not be subjected to the slander that he has been given because of what he has accomplished for the Dolphins while having one of the worst offensive lines the game has seen in a long time. The offensive line in Miami is one of the worst in the NFL, and it won't assist a young quarterback. Even if they sign DeShaun Watson, they will struggle to achieve the sort of success they desire since they have no one upfront to block.
