Following injuries to running back Marcus Murphy and Keith Ford, the Buffalo Bills ran out of running backs during their matchup against the Detroit Lions. They went into the day without LeSean McCoy and Chris Ivory, who were inactive with a hamstring and a shoulder injury respectively.

Murphy was ruled out after walking off the field holding his arm closely to his body, and while Ford was able to return, his absence gave fullback Patrick DiMarco an opportunity to get his first carry of the season in the third quarter. DiMarco had negative-two career rushing yards entering the day.

The Bills scored their first points on the day on a three-yard rush from rookie quarterback Josh Allen. Allen's arm was the reason Buffalo drafted him, but he's made numerous plays with his legs this season. He's had 100 or more rushing yards in games against the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins, he also ran for 99 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In this his 10th season, McCoy has missed just two games including this one. He was lifted from their previous game against the Jets with a hamstring strain. Ivory had also just missed one game before today, in his Week 3 start— his only one of the season— Ivory ran for 56 yards and caught three balls for 70 yards.

Murphy had 35 yards on 11 carries before his injury, and Ford had amassed 46 yards on 13 carries and the Bills held on to beat the Lions 14-13, improving their record to 6-9, the same record Detroit now has.
