The Buffalo Bills were one of a handful of teams that were determined to upgrade their quarterback position during this NFL offseason. Initially, the team went out and brought in A.J. McCarron after trading Tyrod Taylor to the Cleveland Browns and shortly after that, Buffalo landed one of the top-tier quarterbacks in the 2018 NFL Draft by selecting Josh Allen out of Wyoming.
Although Allen was arguably the wild card of the talented young quarterbacks available in the draft, the Bills appear to be very happy with the decision they made. The rookie gunslinger is already making quite the impression in Buffalo during OTAs, according to former NFL quarterback Chris Simms.
“Josh Allen is blowing people away,” Chris Simms said. “I mean, blowing people away!”
Simms went on to drop a bombshell about just how impressive he's been comparing it to Carson Wentz's impact on the Philadelphia Eagles heading into his rookie campaign.
“It sounds like almost like a Carson Wentz thing,” Simms said of Allen's performance during OTAs. “I think everybody is blown away by the mental approach, but practice is eye-opening like we said it would be.”
Obviously, this is great news for the Bills. Allen was the third quarterback taken in April's draft with Baker Mayfield out of Oklahoma going No. 1 to the Browns and USC's Sam Darnold landing with the New York Jets at third overall.
Despite the rave reviews from what Simms is hearing about Allen out of OTAs in Buffalo, there's a long way to go before the Bills truly know what they've got in the strong-armed quarterback. Allen will be one of a few young quarterbacks competing for a starting job ahead of the 2018 NFL season with Darnold, Mayfield, Josh Rosen, and possibly even Lamar Jackson potentially battling it out to be under center come Week 1 in September.
