For the first time since the alleged racial slurs incident a few weeks ago during the AFC Wild Card game, Buffalo Bills guard Richie Incognito and Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Yannick Ngakoue met on Wednesday before Pro Bowl practice to speak about the situation.

Following the Jaguars' 10-3 victory over the Bills at EverBank Field on Jan. 7, Ngakoue took to Twitter to call out Incognito (No. 64 for Buffalo) for hurling racial slurs at him during the game.

According to an article written on Thursday by Peter King of Sports Illustrated, Incognito opened up about the incident over the phone with King and said that he and Ngakoue met to discuss the issue. From what Incognito revealed to King, it seems like the exchange was a very good one.

“I saw him in the locker room, went up to him, said, ‘Good to finally meet you,’ I apologized for my part in this, and I said I hope we can get a drink here and I can get to know you better,” Incognito said. “He was cool. We shook hands and hugged it out.”

Although Incognito would not go into details and Ngakoue did not wish to speak to reporters further about the exchange, the Bills guard said that it was very important that he spoke man-to-man with Ngakoue and put the situation behind them.

“It was important for me to be able to speak man-to-man with Yannick about it,” Incognito said. “It was a reminder how powerful our words can be. But it gets crazy out there. Real crazy. Things are said and done on the football field that are never said off the field, never seen off the field. What happens on the football field very often is not a reflection of who we are as people. That’s why I wanted to see him here. It’s a great setting to talk as men. Yannick is celebrating his first Pro Bowl—much deserved, and he is a heck of a pass-rusher, and we had our hands full with him when we played. And I was glad we were able to get together as men and talk about it.”

This was an extremely professional way for both Richie Incognito and Yannick Ngakoue to handle their grievance together. Kudos to the two of them.
