The Buffalo Bills are looking to change things up.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott says his team is looking to get quarterback Josh Allen going in the run game following the team's close 29-25 defeat to the New England Patriots last Sunday. McDermott says Allen's role in the running game is something the team needs to discuss this week, per Matthew Bové of WKBW.

Bills Josh Allen upset over Patriots loss

The Bills are struggling to find wins and offense in the 2023 campaign, holding a 4-3 record. The team has lost two of their last three and Allen has carried the ball only 13 times total in the last three games. He did manage a rushing touchdown in the loss to the Patriots, but Allen gained only 17 total yards rushing on seven carries in that game. That's simply not enough production for the quarterback who has guided the Bills to an AFC championship game in 2020 and the playoffs in the last four seasons.

Allen is also trending lower than the last two seasons with his rushing. In 2021, Allen gained 763 yards on 122 carries. In 2022, his numbers were nearly identical. He rushed 124 times for 762 yards. This year, he has only 148 total rushing yards through seven games, on 29 rushing attempts. That's far below where his numbers have been.

The Bills are missing his rushing production, too. The team's averaging just over 4.0 yards rushing on the campaign. Those are certainly numbers that can improve and will need to if the team is going to go back to the playoffs for a fifth straight season. Allen can get those numbers up if he's able to get some more touches, but time will tell.
