Raptors’ back up center Bismack Biyombo has made a name for himself while starting in place of Jonas Valanciunas, and other franchises are taking notice.

Biyombo has a $3 million player option for next year that he will now most likely decline after garnering attention from across the NBA for his immense rebounding ability. Declining the player option would make him an unrestricted free agent beginning July 1. According to Sean Deveney of Sporting News, Biyombo should expect a contract of at least $16 million per year! Some reports even go as high as $20 million! Quite an upgrade for the back up center.

In the eight games he has played in place of Valanciunas, Biyombo averaged 8.9 points, 12.1 rebounds and 2.4 blocks. While his offense may not be his biggest strength, his ability to grab anything around the rim and block shots will be highly sought after by GM’s looking for more defense.

The Raptors are going to need all the rebounding help they can get for Game 6 after a blowout loss to the Cavs in Game 5. Fortunately, the next game of the series takes place in Toronto where the Cavs haven’t beaten the Raptors all season. If they can make it to Game 7, anything is possible.
