Portland Trail Blazers superstar point guard Damian Lillard is looking forward to having Carmelo Anthony join the club.

Anthony is signing a non-guaranteed deal with the Blazers. He hasn't played in an NBA game for over a year, but Lillard believes Melo “can do things to help our team.”

“I’m all for it,” Lillard said, via Casey Holdahl of Blazers.com. “I think we’re in a position where we’ve got a lot of guys hurt. I think he can do something to help us with his size, his ability to space the floor, his ability to shoot. Another option to throw someone the ball who can score in isolation situations, good rebounder and just the experience.

“He’s a good player, regardless of what the last few years in Houston and OKC looked like. I didn’t think either one was a great fit. I think he can do things to help our team. We’re not in a position to complain about it. He’s a Hall of Fame player and he can still play.”

Anthony played in just 10 games with the Houston Rockets before the franchise exiled and traded him to the Chicago Bulls last season. The Bulls waived Anthony, who hadn’t received any interest from teams since entering the open market until the Blazers swooped in.

A 10-time All-Star, Anthony averaged 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game with the Rockets while shooting 40.5 percent from the field, 32.8 percent from beyond the arc and 68.2 percent from the free-throw line.

The Blazers are in need of scoring and help in the frontcourt, so this is a good roll of the dice by signing Anthony. The non-guaranteed contract makes it a low-risk proposition as well for the Blazers.
