Damian Lillard is one of the best basketball players on the planet, but he's far from the GOAT. The Portland Trail Blazers, however, believes he does have a GOAT claim in the NBA – the best rapper to ever play.

The Blazers star famously uses a rap pseudonym ‘Dame D.O.L.L.A.' and has consistently been working on his craft on the mic over the years. After launching his fourth studio album last week, Lillard sat down with Complex's Pierce Simpson to discuss a myriad of topics – including his claim as the greatest NBA rapper ever.

“Yes. No hesitation at all,” said Lillard. “And me and Shaq was cool, a lot of people thought when we was going back and forth, that we didn't like each other. But like to me, it's just really what I think. I think people always say that, ‘Oh, Shaq got platinum albums or whatever he got'… But Shaq is like a mega star. He is damn near icon level.

“At that time, that's the way it was gonna go,” continued the Blazers star. “Now, its different. Everybody rap now. It's a different game now. I don't look at it like ‘Oh he did this'. Obviously, I would like to do the same thing, but when you talk about if people gonna listen to all my songs and listen to all his songs they're gonna be like ‘Dame is the best rapper to ever play'.”

Damian Lillard has clearly leveraged his status as an NBA player to his advantage. But that doesn't mean the talent isn't there from the Blazers frontman. He's worked with some huge icons to collaborate on his latest album, such as Lil' Wayne, Q-Tip, and Snoop Dogg.

Lil' Wayne in particular has worked with Dame in the past and probably will again in the future, which is telling for how his experience has been working with the Blazers star. Dame D.O.L.L.A. is for real.
