There’s no question that Portland Trail Blazers superstar point guard Damian Lillard is one of the most well-known hip-hop artists who also happens to be a huge NBA icon. Lillard’s stage name of Dame D.O.L.L.A. is exceedingly well known, though his exploits as a star for the Blazers likely amasses more headlines for the 30-year-old.

According to a story by the Associated Press, Lillard is focusing heavily on his music during the lockdown that NBA players and other members of the NBA “bubble” are having to undergo as COVID-19 continues to ravage the state of Florida.

The story states that Lillard wants to have a career similar to actor and musician Donald Glover, who is both a talented, widely revered actor and a gifted hip-hop musician who performs, writes and releases his music under the pseudonym Childish Gambino.

“That's the point I want to get to,” Damian Lillard said in the story. “I admire him with how he's established himself into two different lanes. People respect him in each lane. That's my goal.”

Glover’s success and meteoric rise is certainly a worthwhile goal for Lillard, as he has won an impressive five Grammy Awards for his work as Childish Gambino – one for his song “Redbone” in 2018 and another four more in 2019 for his brilliant skewering of American culture in both music and video form with the song “This Is America.”

Beyond that, Glover’s beloved turn as Troy Barnes on the NBC sitcom Community, coupled with an Emmy and Golden Globe-winning performance on his show Atlanta, makes him a true modern talent. That's something that Lillard should certainly aspire to achieve, though Glover has never hit a game-winner in the Western Conference playoffs.

Before the season was suspended in March, Lillard was averaging 28.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 7.8 assists for the Blazers in 58 games.
