The Portland Trail Blazers will make a trip down memory lane, commemorating the 42nd anniversary of the 1977 NBA Championship Parade, which the franchise celebrated after taking down the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA Finals. Bill Walton, who starred for that team that incited the phenomenon known as “Blazermania,” will ride his bike among the many fans this Sunday, Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. in a trip from Veterans Memorial Coliseum to Terry Schrunk Plaza, where the Blazers will have a special announcement to make.

Walton led the Blazers to their lone championship, facing up against a Sixers team that was believed to be more talented and much more experienced than Portland was at the time. Maurice Lucas, who had come over from the ABA, partnered greatly with Walton and led the Blazers in scoring, helping a young, brash team stun the favorites in six games.

Walton has always been an avid outdoorsman, keen on exercising and connecting with nature. So what better opportunity to connect with the Hall of Famer than to ride along him on a trip to memory lane?

Most riders will be likely dwarfed by the 6-foot-11 tye-dye-shirt-wearing giant, even if it is with him on two wheels — yet for those who lived the parade experience 42 years ago, it will definitely be a nostalgic moment to revisit the same streets the championship team traveled during its heyday.

There's no hint as to what the special announcement is, but given that the Blazers are celebrating their 50th anniversary, some throwback '77 jerseys could likely be in order.
