The situation regarding the Portland Trail Blazers continues to increase by the day. After the Blazers announced they are going to hire Chauncey Billups as their next head coach, they faced much criticism. Now, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, Damian Lillard could potentially force his way out of Portland.
“The enormous backlash from the Portland Trail Blazers' process to hire a new coach and his concerns on whether a championship contender can be built have become factors that may push the franchise player — Damian Lillard — out the door.”
That is the last thing the Blazers and their fans want to hear. After the team parted ways with Terry Stotts, rumors swirled regarding the future of Lillard and now there is a serious concern of his frustrations growing thin.
As Portland embarked on their search for a new head coach, Haynes reported that Lillard didn't have too much of a say in their next top man.
“The coaching search was conducted by Neil Olshey, the team’s president of basketball operations. None of the candidates who were interviewed were from suggestions from Lillard.”
That is not a good look for a franchise trying to save face with their superstar as they aim to make the most of his prime and compete for a title in the Western Conference. But, the hiring of Billups has received backlash by many, and now it seems likely that Lillard is approaching the end of his tenure in Portland.
If he were to be floated around the trade market, the Blazers will have a lengthy list of suitors, although Lillard might want to play in only a few places.
So, this situation regarding Lillard and the Blazers is certainly one to keep an eye on, and his days with the team could be coming to an end.
