The Portland Trail Blazers may have struggled in 2021-22 in what was essentially a rebuilding year in a sense, but Anfernee Simons proved that he could be Damian Lillard's next co-star after the departure of CJ McCollum.

Heading into restricted free agency this summer, the Blazers are expected to retain the young guard. But, it will potentially cost them a pretty penny. Per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Simons is widely expected to fetch an extension in the $80 million range.

After a breakout season, Portland Trail Blazers guard Anfernee Simons is one of the top free agents on the market and is expected to command a massive new contract.

Four NBA executives who spoke with HoopsHype believe Simons could land a four-year, $80-plus million deal in free agency with additional incentive clauses to increase his salary.

This would not be surprising because Simons really did prove his worth last season. The 23-year-old averaged 17.3 points, 3.9 assists, and 2.3 rebounds on 40% shooting from long range. But in 30 games as a starter, those numbers shot up to 22 points and 5.5 dimes while draining 41.5% of his triples.

The Blazers already made some noise this offseason by acquiring Jerami Grant from the Detroit Pistons. If Anfernee Simons can take that next step in 2022-23, Portland could have themselves its own Big 3. Sure, outside of Dame they're not superstar names, but if the trio can find chemistry and co-exist together, it should translate into success. First, though, Joe Cronin and the front office need to pay the man.
