Unheralded Portland Trail Blazers bench player Jake Layman made a bit of history on Monday.

The second-year forward helped the Blazers beat the Sacramento Kings, 97-83, as he became the first bench player to score eight points in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter (by a New Englander who went to Maryland on a Monday in Sacramento in preseason), per the Blazers’ official Twitter account.

Layman eventually finished with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting and 2-of-2 on 3-pointers in 12 minutes of action. It’s by far Layman’s best performance of preseason thus far after he totaled just five points and one field goal made in his first three games.

While the Blazers’ Twitter account had their fun with that made up record this time, Layman actually did almost break a legitimate record last season during a legitimate NBA regular season game.

Layman famously racked up 17 points and went 5-of-7 from beyond the arc in just eight minutes of play last season against the Golden State Warriors. It was one shy of tying the franchise record for most 3-pointers in a quarter, per the Blazers PR's Twitter account. And he did it on his NBA debut.

Laugh now, Blazers Twitter, but one of these days you might actually have to share a record Layman actually did set and no one would believe you.
