It’s hard to imagine that Carmelo Anthony had trouble finding himself a spot for an NBA team this season. In his 17th NBA season, the 10-time All-Star was once again clutch. Portland Trail Blazers’ usual two-guard CJ McCollum took over point duties for an injured Damian Lillard and sealed the deal with a pick-and-pop play, finished by the 35-year-old forward.

The Blazers eventually came through win an important win at 107-104.

Melo finished the game with a season-high 32 points, his first 30-point game ever since he left the New York Knicks. CJ McCollum orchestrated his team, flirting with a triple-double with 41 points, 12 assists, and nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, Pistons forward Christian Wood led his team with 26 points off the bench.

Although still depleted due to a series of injuries, Portland has managed to keep themselves afloat in the playoff race. Even without Dame, McCollum has been willing to step up and facilitate the ball for the team to clinch the last playoff spot. His 12 assists were in fact, a career-high.

It’s no easy feat, though. The Memphis Grizzlies are planning to hold on tight despite having a hard remaining schedule, while a Zion-accelerated Pelicans are bulldozing their way through. San Antonio, meanwhile, is still holding on despite their Sunday night blowout loss to OKC. It’s tough, but the Blazers have proven themselves to be up to the task.
