The Atlanta Braves are activating Robinson Cano ahead of their upcoming series with the New York Mets, per John Heyman. Cano began the season as a member of the Mets. He was released after hitting just .195 in New York. Cano then signed a deal with the San Diego Padres where he hit under .100 in 12 games. San Diego ultimately dealt him to the Braves for cash considerations.

It was unclear how Atlanta was planning to utilize the veteran infielder. Some speculated that Cano would begin his Braves tenure in the minor leagues. But according to Heyman, Cano will be active for Monday's game.

Robinson Cano's activation adds another big storyline to an already crucial series. The Braves have been MLB's hottest team over the past month and now trail the Mets by just 1.5 games in the AL East. As for Cano, he is preparing to face the team that is paying his massive salary. The Mets are paying him over $20 million to play against them.

Cano could be in line to make his Braves debut on Monday. MLB Network's John Morosi reported that Atlanta is expected to platoon him at second base. And with right-handed pitcher Max Scherzer on the bump for the Mets on Monday, Cano's left-handed bat might be in Buck Showalter's lineup.

This Mets-Braves series will garner plenty of attention this week. These rivals desperately want to win against one another. With first place on the line, it will be interesting to see if Robinson Can can realistically help the Braves win the series.
