The Denver Broncos have requested permission to interview New England Patriots defensive coordinator Brian Flores, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The Broncos fired head coach Vance Joseph on Monday.

Flores is currently a hot name, as the Green Bay Packers and Cleveland Browns have also requested permission to interview the Patriots coordinator.

The 37-year-old has been a member of New England's organization since 2004, first serving as a scouting assistant for two years before being promoted to a pro scout in 2006.

Flores then joined the Patriots' coaching staff in 2008 as a special teams assistant. He did not become really involved with the defense until 2011, when the Pats named him a defensive assistant. Then, the following year, Flores became the team's safeties coach, a position he held through 2015.

He then became the linebackers coach in 2016 before being promoted to the role of defensive coordinator this season, replacing the departed Matt Patricia.

Flores was a linebacker at Boston College but was unable to go pro due to injuries.

The fact that Flores is drawing so much interest is a bit odd, as the Patriots' defense ranked just 21st in the NFL this season, but due to Bill Belichick, New England assistant coaches are always in high demand in the head-coaching market.

The Broncos went just 6-10 this season, marking the first time since 1972 that they put together back-to-back losing campaigns, as Denver won just five games in 2017.

Joseph spent just two years with the Broncos.

Denver has not made the playoffs since winning the Super Bowl during the 2015-16 campaign.
