Denver Broncos main front office person John Elway has struggled to hire the right head coach to lead the club in the past, but he thinks he has finally hit a home run bringing in Vic Fangio.

Fangio is a bit of an old school coach and Elway thinks that is exactly what the team needs to take the next step forward to get back into the playoffs and beyond.

“He’s been everything that I thought he would be,” John Elway told reporters on Saturday via Pro Football Talk. “I like his style and the way he goes about it with no music and the focus that he has brought back to the practice field, the tempo and the reps. I’m excited about where we are, but obviously we’ve still got to win football games. I feel good about where we are.”

The last part of that quote is key for Elway and Fangio. Even though Fangio has done everything right so far in the eyes of his boss, it doesn't matter if it doesn't result in wins. Elway has gotten a long leash running the Broncos, but the former gunslinger needs to start proving that he can create winning teams again.

It might be a multiple-year process to get the team back to where they want to be and contending for a Super Bowl, but with Joe Flacco under center and a good defense, there is no reason this team shouldn't be a playoff contender this year.
