The Denver Broncos did not reach the postseason as a result of the 2018-19 campaign. However, the AFC West franchise has already gotten off to a red-hot start this offseason upon acquiring former Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco.

With Flacco now slated to serve as the Broncos quarterback for at least the 2019-20 season, the team apparently has some “big plans” for its running backs as well.

Though Flacco will become the go-to presence under center, the tandem of Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman will apparently encounter a heavy workload going forward.

“We feel really good about both of them,” Broncos general manager John Elway recently said, via The Denver Post. “I think they’re a good combination and change of pace. We have big plans for Phillip as well as Royce to get them both involved in the passing game as well as the run game.”

It certainly doesn't hurt to have two up-and-coming running backs as such a position often becomes associated with bruises, injuries and a grueling runs up the gut into traffic. Not only does having the tandem of Lindsay and Freeman help the Broncos in the running game, but also the passing game due to the aging Flacco serving as more of a pocket passer.

Overall, Elway seems pleased with where the Broncos offense is headed with the early stages of the 2019 offseason underway.

“I like the system; it’s a system I’m familiar with,” Elway said of his team's offense scheme, via The Denver Post. “Mike [Shanahan] started it and Kyle has taken it to the next level and evolved it. The success Kyle’s had wherever he’s been and to have Rich studying underneath Kyle is excellent.”

The Broncos finished 6-10 this past season, with veteran quarterback Case Keenum leading the way.
