The Denver Broncos traded down from No. 10 to 20th overall in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft and ended up selecting University of Iowa tight end Noah Fant at that spot, and it was exactly what Fant wanted.

“I remember the Broncos being on the clock, and I wanted to go there so bad and I got a call from Denver, Colorado and I almost lost it,” Fant told Broncos TV.

Before the Broncos even drafted Fant, there had been talk that Denver was interested in him, as he had a terrific Scouting Combine and was considered to be one of the most athletic tight end prospects ever.

“They were just honestly trying to get to know me, getting to know me as a person, what I was like and getting to know my knowledge of football,” Fant said of his Combine visit with Denver. “I feel like I did pretty good at those meetings. Just showed them the true me, showed them who I am. I’m really glad that they liked that and eventually drafted me with the 20th pick.”

Fant is coming off of a junior campaign in which he hauled in 39 receptions for 518 yards and seven touchdowns, but it was his 4.50-second 40-yard dash time at the Combine that had everyone talking.

Now, Fant will get to show his stuff on the NFL, and he plans on opening up the Broncos' offense.

“That means stretching the seam vertically,” Fant said. “That means pulling defenses out. And even if defenses are focused on me pulling them out, then things underneath are going to be open. Having different pieces on the offense — there’s a lot of different guys on the offense and having a guy like Joe Flacco is going to be something pretty special.”
