Denver Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay has burst onto the scene this year as a rookie, but he wasn't able to finish the game against the Baltimore Ravens because he was ejected for throwing a punch.

Late in the second quarter, Case Keenum was sacked and fumbled the ball. Lindsay dove on top of the pile trying to get the ball back and appeared to throw a punch. Lindsay said he feels terrible about being ejected but denied he was trying to throw a punch, instead claiming he was just trying to go after the ball.

“I feel horrible,” Lindsay said via 247 Sports. “I feel horrible, because I’m not out there with my team. And that’s my fault. That’s something I’m going to learn from. It’s never going to happen again.”

“The ball ended up squirting back out,” Lindsay said. “Another Raven dude jumped on the pile, so I went there. You’re just trying to make a play for your team. We were trying to get the ball out. It looked like I was swinging at somebody.”

This might not be the end of the story for Lindsay. The league could suspend Lindsay for a game if they deem the punch was on purpose.

Lindsay was an undrafted free agent who made the team after an impressive preseason. So far this year he has rushed for 198 yards and three touchdowns. He has also caught three passes for 35 yards and a touchdown. He is a big part of the offense, and missing him against the Kansas City Chiefs would be a huge loss.
