Last week, news broke that Russell Wilson was headed to the Denver Broncos in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks. The blockbuster deal is official, and Wilson is making himself at home in Colorado. Although he got to Denver shortly after news broke of the transaction, the quarterback made his first media appearance as a member of the Broncos on Wednesday afternoon.
Wilson began his introductory press conference by stating that he is truly honored to be a part of the Denver organization. The Athletic's Nick Kosmider tweeted Wilson's personally humbling quote Wednesday afternoon.
As Kosmider noted, Wilson also recalled watching clips of John Elway as a child and admired him for being a two-sport athlete. The Broncos president of football operations played both football and baseball before beginning his legendary career in the NFL.
Wilson acknowledged the talent surrounding the Broncos in the AFC West in the Los Angeles Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs, and Las Vegas Raiders. Have no fear, Broncos fans, this veteran quarterback is up for the challenge.
“I wanna play against the best. I don't fear anything,” Wilson said early on in the press conference.
KKTV sports director Taylor Kilgore tweeted a clip of the iconic quote.
Overall, Wilson brought a lot of optimism to his Broncos introductory press conference. According to Kosmider, Wilson's “goal” is to play at least ten more years and win at win a handful of championships in the process.
Wilson will face his former team when the Broncos head to Seattle for one of their 2022-2023 regular season away games.
