The Cleveland Browns enjoyed a bit of a resurgence in the 2018 NFL season. Quarterback Baker Mayfield is hoping to keep some of that momentum going into next year.

It is no secret that the Browns made some significant changes to their coaching staff that resulted in the hiring of Freddie Kitchens as their new head coach. According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, Mayfield is confident that Kitchens can continue to help this team progress.

“I believe in him,” Mayfield said. “That’s not to say anything about anybody else, but you know what? We had something special and I want to build on it.”

It is encouraging to see that Mayfield is optimistic about the team moving forward. He had certainly faced his fair share of challenges this season with all the new changes that took place. Fortunately, it appears the Browns are finally headed in the right direction.

There is no question that Cleveland got off to a slow start in the 2018 campaign. It was magnified by the tumultuous relationship between Mayfield and head coach Hue Jackson. However, things ultimately picked up for the Browns once they fired Jackson as they wound up in playoff contention down the final stretch of the season.

More importantly, Mayfield has been able to follow through on the hype of being a No. 1 overall pick. His performance in the second half of the season even helped him garner some consideration for Offensive Rookie of the Year. Although beating out New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley for the honor seems a bit far-fetched at this point, the Browns can take solace in the fact that Mayfield looks every bit the part of a future franchise quarterback.
