Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield and his wife, Emily, hosted an event on Monday with the Boys and Girls Club of Northeast Ohio. This was just two days before Mayfield tested positive for COVID-19. The event, known as ‘Passing the Joy,' had about 75 children in attendance at their Elyria South Club location. The club put out a statement on Wednesday, shortly after the news of Mayfield's positive test result was released. Browns writer Mary Kay Cabot shared the statement.

The statement emphasized their number one priority, which is the safety and well-being of the young people they serve. Along with that, the release noted that they contacted the families of the children that attended the event to make sure they were aware of the situation.

“We want to convey that we required all those attending Monday's event to wear masks while in the building and get their temperature checked upon entrance,” the statement said. However, Cleveland.com posted this photo on their official Twitter account on Monday. The Browns quarterback and his wife can be seen with multiple kids surrounding them, rarely anyone properly wearing a face mask for the photo op.

The Boys and Girls Club statement also noted that Mayfield tested negative for COVID-19 on Tuesday morning, the day after the event. Regardless, they are shutting down the Elyria South Club location for the rest of the week in order to limit exposure and deep clean the building.
