The Cleveland Browns have decided to pull the trigger on firing head coach Hue Jackson after Week 7 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers along with letting go of offensive coordinator Todd Haley in the process. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, this has pushed defensive coordinator Gregg Williams into the role of being the interim head coach while the team is without a permanent replacement for Jackson.

The Browns have been off to another slow start to the season holding a 2-5-1 record through the first eight games played. The team has taken steps forward this year with rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield leading the charge, but it has seen them continue to fall into a familiar rut dropping their last three games that has pushed them into last place in the AFC North. Things are beginning to fall well south once again, which the organization felt it was the best move for them to go in another direction.

This is likely just a temporary promotion for Gregg Williams as he could also be on the move to once the Browns find their next head coach be in it in the coming weeks or months after the end of the 2018 season. Cleveland is in a bit of a hole that does have the potential of contending for the playoff if they are to finish out the season strong. Much of this will depend on the play of Mayfield as it's more opportunities for him to gather more experience moving forward that will be critical to his continued growth on the field.

The Browns have some tough sledding ahead against playoff caliber teams in the Kansas City Chiefs, Atlanta Falcons, Cincinnati Bengals, and Houston Texans over the next month. This will be quite indicative of how the rest of the 2018 season plays out for Cleveland.
